The Hornets traveled to Bay High and knocked off the Tigers for the second time in three days in Region 8-4A play. Poplarville smashed Bay High 16-4, moving into sole possession of first place in the league with a 5-1 mark.
Blake Ladner picked up the win, going six frames and allowing just one earned run. Luke Goodwin carried the big stick in the win, as he collected four hits including three doubles. Chandler Ray had a pair of hits and drove in a run, while Zac Houston had a triple. Justin Oliver delivered thee hits in the winning effort including a double.
The Hornets are 11-5 overall, and will host Forrest County AHS in district action on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, PRC traveled to West Harrison and staged a seventh inning rally to pull out a 3-1 win over the Hurricanes.
The Blue Devils trailed the home team 1-0 going into the final frame, but Wade Manning cracked a one out single to start the winning rally. Jeshua Lee followed with a double, and then Christian Smith drove both runners home with a two-run single. Smith then stole second and third, and Dylan Spiers laid down a perfect bunt single to cap the comeback and plate the final run of the game.
Spiers, who was also the winning pitcher, then struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win. He is now 6-0 on the season, and he went the distance allowing just three hits and striking out 10.
Smith paced the seven hit PRC attack with a pair of singles. The Blue Devils had just three hits like the Hurricanes before stringing together four straight during the winning rally.
PRC is also alone in first place in Division 8-5A with a 7-2 mark.
The Blue Devils, who are 11-5 overall, will have a pair of home district games this week, hosting the Hurricanes on Tuesday and then Long Beach on Friday.
