Both Picayue and Poplarville picked up wins in fast-pitch softball action recently.
Poplarville's Rachel Hickman hurled yet another no-hitter, her fifth of the season, as the Lady Hornets beat Vancleave on the road 3-0 Monday.
Hickman struck out 14 in the complete game shutout, as the Lady Hornets moved to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in Region 8-4A play.
Kristern Herndon and Shelby McGill drove in runs in the winning effort, while Hickman added a triple as well.
Poplarville beat George County 3-2 in the D'Iberville Spring Fling Tournament. Branda Northrop had a pair of hits, while Tori Fairchild, Kaitlyn Clark and Hickman each drove in a run.
The Lady Hornets fell to East Central 4-3 in the same event. Hickman took the loss, while Northrop had two hits and Fairchild, Breanna Herndon and McGill all drove in runs.
Poplarville returns to action on Tuesday, traveling to Bay High.
Also, Picayune won four of five games over the past week, with the only loss a close 7-6 decision to St. Martin.
The Lady Tide beat West Harrison 8-7 in nine innings earlier this week.
Bethany Crawford went the distance recording the win and carried the big stick as well with four hits, including three doubles. Tiffany DeVore and Nala Carter had two hits apiece.
Picayune was coming off a pair of big wins in the D'Iberville Spring Fling Tournament. The Lady Tide smashed Vancleave 11-0, and beat perennial power West Lauderdale 11-2 as well.
Against Vancleave, Jennifer Walker had a triple and Dawsey added a double. Allie Samples, Crawford and Jennifer Walker each had two hits apiece, while Dawsey, Jennifer Walker, Brooke Ladner and Devore all drove in runs in the win.
In the win over WLHS, Brooke Ladner had three hits, including two doubles, while Bethany Crawford and Rylee Dawsey had two hits apiece. Tiffany DeVore recorded a three-run double.
The Lady Tide also beat Long Beach 6-0. Bethany Crawford went the distance, getting support at the plate from Abby Burnette, Brooke Ladner and Jennifer Ladner as each had a pair of hits apiece.
Picayune will travel to Gulf Coast Community College Tuesday to take on the East Central Hornets at 5:00 and 6:30. District play will begin Thursday as the Lady Tide will host the Lady Devils of Pearl River Central.
