The Poplarville Lady Hornets’ track and field team scored 190 points en route to their dominating win of the Division 8-4A track and field meet held at Pass Christian High School on Saturday, April 20th. The men’s team scored 80 to finish second behind champion St. Stanislaus.
The Lady Hornets finished ahead of Bay High with 70 points, Vancleave 49, Greene County 46 and Forrest County AHS with eight points.
The top four finishers in each event qualified for the regional meet which will be held this Saturday in Tylertown.
Shaneshia Huderson won the 100m hurdles (17.57) and placed second in the 300m hurdles while Zanashia Turner won the 100m (13.60) and placed second in the 200m and triple jump. Tamera Henry won the 1600m (6:22.58), placed second in the 3200m and second in the high jump.
Naomi White won the shot put (32’ 5 ?”) and the discus (67’) while teammate Tyra Huderson placed second in the shot put and third in the discus. Raven Henry won the 300m hurdles (47.87) and placed second in the long jump.
Jenascia Peters won the triple jump (35’ 10”), the long long jump (17’ 10 1/2”) and the 400m (1:03.94). Sheena Travis placed second in the 800m run.
The 4x200m relay team of Huderson, Peters, Raven Henry and Travis placed first (1:50.23) in the event. The 4x100m relay team of Travis, Turner, Tyra Huderson and Tiquie Henry won the event in 56.03. The Lady Hornets also won the 4x400m relay (4:46.05) with the team of Raven Henry, Travis, Tiquie Henry and Shaneshia Huderson.
The men’s team narrowly edged Bay High with 76 points followed by Greene County with 67, Vancleave 46 and Forrest County AHS with 32 points.
The Hornets were led by Austin Rancatore who won the discus (122’ 1”) and placed fourth in the shot put. Kalin Hart placed third in the shot put and fourth in the discus. Stephon Huderson placed second in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Tyler Griffin took third in the high jump and second in the long jump. Caleb Smith was fourth in the 800m run and third in the 1600m run. Matt Porter was second in the 110m hurdles and third in the 300m hurdles.
The Hornets are set to run in the Region 4-4A track and field championships at Tylertown High School this Saturday morning at approximately 10am.
