Homestanding Picayune will celebrate Senior Night and hopefully a district championship tonight when the Lady Tide hosts Stone County.
Head coach Kristi Mitchell's crew can win the league title and a first round playoff bye with a win over the Lady Tomcats. Picayune is coming off a big 11-3 win over arch-rival Pearl River Central Monday night.
Bethany Crawford got the win for the Lady Tide, she allowed five hits and struck out seven.
Picayune pounded out 16 hits against losing pitcher Emily Kennedy. Brooke Ladner had a triple and a pair of doubles to lead the winning attack. Alyssa Scott had a game high four hits, including a double. Rylee Dawsey and Nala Carter added two hits apiece to the winning attack.
Krista Davis had two hits for PRC, while Austin Pruitt and Gabby Kellar also had hits.
PRC bounced back Tuesday night with its first win of the season, as they beat Stone 7-5. Emily Kennedy was the winning pitcher, and Krista Davis the top hitter.
The Lady Blue Devils begin the Class 5A South State playoffs against West Harrison on Friday.
• Poplarville wrapped up the Region 8-4A title with a 1-0 win over Vancleave Tuesday night.
Rachel Hickman tossed a two hit shutout and struck out 15 in leading the Lady Hornets to the win. Hannah Herndon had two hits and scored the only run fro Poplarville, while Kaitlyn Clark drove in the only run.
On Monday, Branda Northrop picked up the pitching win as the Lady Hornets beat Forrest County AHS 13-3. Northrop also had three hits, a triple and two doubles, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times.
Also, Clark and Kristen Herndon drove in three runs apiece, while Hannah Hernon had two hits and Breanna Herndon drove in a pair of runs in the winning 12 hit attack.
Over the weekend, Poplarville picked up a pair of 1-0 wins over Purvis and Sumrall.
Hickman got both pitching wins. Hickman had three hits in the win over Sumrall, including a double, and Sam Gentry had a double as well. Shelby McGill had two hits including a triple in that win.
Hickman, Northrop, Camryn Pierce and Kristen Herndon all drove in two runs apiece against Purvis.
The Lady Hornets wrap up league play tonight against Bay High.
