The Pearl River Central boys bounced back from a couple of losses last week with a big win over county rival Poplarville Monday night.

Alex Travis tallied a game high 20 points as the Blue Devils knocked off the visiting Hornets 69-52.

 

 

 

Seth McCoy chipped in 19 points to the winning effort, combining with Travis to give PRC a potent one-two punch.

 

 

 

Zack Taylor paced Poplarville with 14 points, and Anthony Martin added 11 for the Hornets.

 

 

 

The Blue Devil defense held usually highfl ying Riojae Raine to just two points in the win. Poplarville was also hampered by the loss of steady point guard Nigel Wood, who was out after injuring a knee in a win over East Marion last week.

 

 

 

The Blue Devils were coming off an 81-57 loss to Hancoock on the road Friday night. Seth McCoy had a game high 18 for PRC, while Alex Travis added 11 points and Drew Cruz chipped in 10 points.

 

 

 

Ethan Martin led the Hawks with 18 points.

 

 

 

Poplarville won the girls game Monday night over PRC 33-16.

 

 

 

Shaneshia Hudderson paced Poplarville with 12 points while Devynn Hart added 11 points to the winning cause.

 

 

 

Both Poplarville teams traveled to Purvis Tuesday night.

 

 

 

Also, both Picayune squads hosted Pass Christian on Tuesday night as well. A full report on all four of those games will appear in Thursday’s issue of the Picayune Item.

 

 

 

Tuesday’s games were the final before the Christmas break for all four varsity teams at Picayune and Poplarville.

 

 

 

Poplarville’s girls, along with the Picayune girls and the Picayune boys, will all compete in the Picayune Christmas tournament at the end of next week.

 

 

 

Pearl River Central still has action left this week, as both PRC teams travel to Natchez Friday night to open district play.
