Softball action heats up

By CURTIS ROCKWELL
Item Sports Editor

PICAYUNE Both Picayune and Poplarville have enjoyed some success so far in the prep slow pitch softball season.

But beginning this week, what the Lady Tide and Lady Hornets have accomplished so far this year won’t matter near as much as what happens from here on out.

Both Poplarville and Picayune begin district play over the next several days, with the Lady Hornets getting started tonight and the Lady Tide following suit on Thursday night.

Poplarville travels to South Jones tonight to begin league action. The Lady Hornets are 6-2 overall after winning two games over the weekend.

The Lady Hornets beat North Pike 11-6 as Kayla Ross had two singles and a double and Poplarville stopped Brookhaven 6-1 as Allysa Graeter smacked a triple and a double in the win. Graeter also picked up both wins on the mound as well.

Picayune also begins its district campaign on the road as the Lady Tide travels to Forrest County AHS on Thursday to open league play.

Picayune stands 10-2 overall after beating Petal on the road Saturday 5-3.

Brandi Rabion and Taylor Seals each paved the way for Picayune with three hits apiece, as Rabion had a triple and Seals a double.

Sarah Dodd picked up the pitching win for the Lady Tide in the victory.

Picayune and Poplarville meet one week from Thursday in Poplarville.
