Lady Tide rolls

By Curtis Rockwell
Item Sports Editor

PICAYUNE Picayune moved to 5-2 on the young slow-pitch softball season with a resounding 10-0 win over visiting Columbia on Thursday night.

The Lady Tide of head coach Kristie Mitchell got shutout pitching from Sarah Dodd and she got plenty of support from her teammates at the plate as Picayune banged out 14 hits en route to the win which was stopped after four innings due to the mercy rule.

“I am happy with where we are so far. We have only lost to Petal and Enterprise and those are two pretty good teams,” Mitchell said. “We have been hitting the ball pretty good, and overall our defense has been solid. We just need to stay consistent with our hitting.”

Tiffany Devore drove in four runs and Hillary Dickens had three hits to led the way at the plate for Picayune. Brandie Rabion had two hits and an RBI, while Mallorie Mixon added a pair of hits to the winning cause as well. Dodd also came up big at the plate in addition to her work on the mound, as she collected a pair of doubles in the win as well.

Picayune now heads to the Gulf Coast, where the Lady Tide will compete in the Biloxi Tournament tonight and Saturday playing four games.

Tonight, the Lady Tide will face Vancleave at 5:30 and then St. Patrick's at 7:00. On Saturday, Picayune meets George County at 10:30 a.m., and then East Central at Noon. All games will take place at either the Lady Indian complex at the high school or at the city complex which is located just a block or so from the BHS field.

“We are looking forward to it,” Mitchell added.
