PICAYUNE The 2008 Picayune Maroon Tide football team was to be introduced to the public on Friday night.

However, the persistent rain that the local area has experienced over the past 10 days has forced the event to be cancelled.

“Our field is just saturated, we can’t get on it,” veteran Maroon Tide head coach Dodd Lee said Wednesday night. “We just won’t be able to do it.”

Picayune, the two time defending Region 8-4A champions, is preparing for its season opener one week from Friday, on Aug. 29th, at Moss Point.

“It’s been going pretty well so far,” Lee said, of preseason practice. “We’re still learning with this group. We may go through some growing pains early, but I think we have the talent to be pretty good if we work hard and keep improving.”

The Maroon Tide was to have their first action so far this year under the lights on Friday night, scrimmaging after the meet the team event. Lee said they would try to get some night action in soon
