It should be no surprise that Mississippi’s Parole Board, under the leadership of former Hinds County Sheriff Malcolm McMillin, was letting fewer people out of prison than it used to.
McMillin, with a lifetime spent chasing criminals, was more accustomed to locking offenders up than letting them out. It only takes one sensational crime committed by someone on probation or parole to bring unwelcome attention to a necessary part of the criminal justice system.
