Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. at East Jerusalem Baptist Church for the Rev. Willie Lee Carter, 65, of Picayune, Miss., who was called home to be with the Lord early Sunday, March 31, 2013 embraced by his loving family in Oschner Medical Center Northshore.
He was born on April 4, 1947 in Clyde, Miss., to the late Will Carter and Nellie Mae Autmon.
Willie was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School Class of 1967, where he played football. He joined the United States Army in 1968 and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He was a member of East JerusaIem Baptist Church where he was ordained as a minister in 1994 under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Alonzo Dees. He retired from Avondale Shipyard as a welder.
Willie Lee loved working with his hands and could repair just about anything. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, spending time with family and his dogs.
Willie was preceded in death by: his parents; and three brothers: Robert "Candy” Carter, Melvin Young and Larry Carter.
He leaves to cherish his memory: four loving and devoted children: Shannon Currie (Steve) of Orlando, Fla., Teron Carter (Nancy) of Dublin, Ohio; Jonathan Patton (Cynthia) of Greenbay, Wisc., and Christina Carter (Deon) of Picayune; his surviving siblings: four brothers, James Acker of Beaumont, Texas, Oscar Carter of Chicago, Ill., Arzo Youngblood and Bobby Carter ,both of Picayune; and three sisters: Erma L. Griffin of New Orleans, La., Renee Barney and Theresa Carter, both of Baton Rouge, La.; Jennifer Jones (long- time friend) of Picayune; nine loving grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
The family wiIl receive friends on Saturday, April 6, 2013 from 10 -11 a.m. at the church.
The Rev. Brian K. Dees win officiate at the service.
Interment will follow in the Picayune Cemetery with Military Honors. Entrusted to Brown's Funeral Home

Donald Ray Combs, 70, of Edmonton, Ky., passed away Friday, November 29, 2013, at the NHC Healthcare Facility in Glasgow. Born in Glasgow, he was a son of the late Rex and Laverne Greer Combs. Donald Ray was employed in construction and building maintenance and he was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army.
