Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Rose of Sharon Church of God in Christ for Elizabeth Ann Hawkins, 59, of Picayune, Miss., who passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 gracefully embraced by her loving family. The Elder David Simmons will officiate at the service.
Elizabeth Ann Hawkins was born on May 27, 1954 in Hazlehurst, Miss., to Willie and Dorthine Berry. She was a graduate of Picayune Memorial High School, Class of 1972 and Mississippi Valley State University. Elizabeth was an Educator and a Motivator. She worked for Mississippi Action of Progress, as a Teacher’s Aide at Southside Elementary, and Director of McCarthy Learning Center.
At an early age, Elizabeth received Christ in her life under the leadership of W.R. Keys, where she served in many capacities. She was District Chairlady of the Columbia District as well as District Choir President, Local Sunday School Teacher, Choir President, Bible Band President, State Women’s Choir Member, and Jurisdictional State Choir Member.
Elizabeth married Robert E. Hawkins and to this union one child was born: Elicia R. Hawkins.
She loved the lord and she loved her family.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Willie and Dorthine Berry; step-son, Robert Jr; two brothers, Chester (Nut) Tatum, Nathaniel Tatum; and one sister, Linda (Faye) Bradfield.
Those who will cherish her memories are: her husband, Robert Hawkins; daughter, Elicia Hawkins; four brothers: Donald (Diane) Berry, Jessie Berry, James Tatum, and Terry Tatum; two sisters, Lisa (Roy) Tatum and Dana (Mamon) Rivers; two grandchildren, Robin and Davonte Moon; and one great-grandchild.
She will also be missed by her church family at McDowell Memorial Church of God in Christ.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Interment will be in the Picayune Cemetery.
