Burlon Wesley Reid, 70, of Poplarville, Miss. passed away Friday, June 28, 2013 at his residence.
Mr. Reid was recently retired from a career in education spanning 48 years. He began his career in the Pearl River Central School District; taught for 30 years in the Bogalusa, Louisiana School System; and finished his career Pearl River Central School District. He was an alumnus of The University of Southern Mississippi, Southeastern Louisiana University, was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, attended the Barn Church; and was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Indians.
Burlon will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Charile and Bertie Brock Reid; one daughter, Robin Jill Reid; five brothers: Ray Reid, Robert Reid, Alvin “Scooby” Reid, Charles Reid, Jr., and Clinton Reid.
Survivors include: his wife 43 years, Chris Reid of Poplarville; three sons, Steve (Kelly) Reid of Poplarville, Scott (Sarah) Reid of Petal; and David Reid of Poplarville; two sisters, Dorothy Verrett and Nell Herndon, both of Poplarville; seven grandchildren: Maci Reid, Hannah Reid, Rachel Reid, Lizzy Reid, Makena Reid, Olivia Reid, Coleman Reid; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, former students, and colleagues.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at College Heights Baptist Church, 217 Highway 11 North, Poplarville, MS 39470 with Brother Jeff Easterling, Brother Mike Reid, and Brother Walter Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation was held Monday at White Funeral Home in Poplarville, and will continue one hour prior to the Tuesday services at the church.
