The Picayune Item
Zora Sellers Woodward, born February 17, 1929, went to eternal peace on Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
Born in Prentiss, Miss., Zora was the first daughter and the third of seven children born to Jerry and Pearlie Hayes Sellers.
Zora was predeceased by: all of her siblings (Judon, Edward, Janie, Basil, 'PeeWee' and Dollie); her only son, Stanley Louis Woodward; and her husband, Louis Woodward.
Married to Louis Edward Woodward in 1946, they celebrated 51 years of marriage before his death in 1997. They lived in Poplarville and had five children, six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Zora joined the Oak Hill Pentacostal Church as a teenager and was an active lifelong member. She loved her faith and her church family. Mother had always dreamed of visiting the birthplace of Jesus, and in 1999 she traveled to the Holy Land.
Known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers, Zora was an outgoing person who thrived on being with others. Her home was always open to visitors. Throughout her life she maintained a spunky demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, will never be forgotten.
She enjoyed learning, crocheting, vegetable gardening, canning and cooking, driving, travel and visiting family and friends. She had a talent for remembering dates such as everyone's birthday and her excellent memory served as the family historian. Children of all ages were her joy, and she dearly loved the nieces and nephews in her family, the children in her church, the Patton grandchildren and the children in the Highlands neighborhood.
Left to treasure her memory are: her daughters Dianne Woodward, Elaine Key (Keith), Teresa Hagwood (Brian), and Nadine Rini (Jim); and her grandchildren, Richie, April, Brian, Jessica, Samantha and Jon. Family and friends were Zora's passion and delight. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
The family gives a heartfelt thank you to the loving hands that cared for Zora during her long illness, Deb Muncher, Jean Ulrich, and especially to Tamera and Butch Patton. A special thank you to Marie Fazende, Sis. Katy Bilbo and Elizabeth Gilbert for your friendship and support.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Oak Hill Pentecostal Church, Poplarville with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., Monday at White Funeral Home, Poplarville.
