Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008 at Derby Place Missionary Baptist Church for Frank W. Smith, Sr., 68, of the Derby Community in Poplarville who passed away Friday, July 18, 2008 in Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg. Burial will be in Derby Cemetery under the direction of White Funeral Home, Poplarville.
Brother Scott Downes, Brother Harold Smith, and Brother Sylvester Stewart will officiate at the service.
A native of the Derby Community, Mr. Smith was born on March 25, 1940 to Vireece Smith and Tena Mitchel. He was the owner of The Woods Steakhouse for 26 years, a former Pearl River County Supervisor in Beat 3, a member of Derby Place Missionary Baptist Church, and most importantly a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one son, Rodney Jay Smith in 1997; and one brother, Nolan Ray Smith.
Survivors include: his wife, Gloria L. Smith; one son, Frank W. Smith, Jr.; one daughter, Tina Simon and her husband, John O., all of Derby Community; one brother, Percy Smith and his wife, Barbara of Poplarville; three sisters, Doris DIllard, Laura Head, both of Derby Community, and Gracie Lumpkin, and her husband, Charles of Poplarville. Six grandchildren, John Guy Simon and his wife, Candace, Miranda Brunson, Adam Simon and his wife, Caycee, Anna Smith, Lainie Smith, and Willis Jay Smith also survive.
Pallbearers will be John Guy Simon, Adam Simon, Randy Hunt, Jake Staten, Landon Tynes, and Wally Stogner. John O. Simon will serve as honoray pallbearer.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2008 and be ongoing until the time of services on Monday at Derby Place Missionary Baptist Church.
White Funeral Home, Poplarville is in charge of arrangements.
