Charles “Mr. Charlie” Carter, Sr.

The Picayune Item

PICAYUNE Charles “Mr. Charlie” Carter, Sr., 79, of Picayune, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008 in McNeill.

His funeral service will be Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Picayune Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Reeves officiating, assisted by Bro. Cedric Lumpkin and Bro. James Gray. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery in Nicholson, under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Picayune Funeral Home.

Mr. Charlie, a lifetime resident of Picayune, was head of maintenance construction for Pearl River County and worked construction all of his life. He was a member of New Palestine Baptist Church and attended Westlawn Baptist Church. He loved baseball and softball and continued to play through his 40’s.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Willie and Virginia Smith Carter; son, Greg Carter; and sister, Camelia Haddox.

He is survived by: his wife, Norma Carter of Picayune; son, Charles “Chuck” Carter of Picayune; three brothers, Curt Carter and Clinton Carter, both of Picayune and Calvin “Sonny” Carter of Texas; four grandchildren, Jessica Davis, Christopher Carter, Breanna Carter and Jacob Carter; and two great-grandchildren, Krista Davis and Hunter Davis.

Arrangements are under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home and Crematory.
