Dorothy Beach Stockstill

Dorothy Beach Stockstill

Dorothy Beach Stockstill, 86, passed away on July 3, 2009 after a long illness.

She was born to the late Edna Massey and Vester Beach on April 2, 1923 in Poplarville. She married the late Norman Stockstill in 1946 and they lived together in Picayune, until his death in 1997. She relocated to Monroe, La in 2004 to be near family.

“Miss Dot” was a dance teacher until she retired and was passionate about sharing her love of ballet with her students over the years. She taught dance in Bogalusa, Poplarville and New Orleans as well as from the studio at her home in Picayune. She was known for making all the costumes for the recitals by hand with the assistance of her mother.

She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church Picayune and was active with the Keenagers, a senior adult group. She also sang in the choir with the Keenagers and was a former Sunday School Teacher. Dorothy was a current member of Parkview Baptist Church, Monroe.

Dorothy is survived by: her two sons: Glenn Norman Stockstill of Redmond, WA and James Dean Stockstill, MD and his wife Debbie of Monroe, La.; her two grandchildren, Timothy Stockstill of Redmond, WA and Abbey Stockstill of Philadelphia, PA; and her brother Joe Beach and his wife Margaret of Poplarville. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in the Poplarville and Picayune area.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kerry Anders and her caregivers Sue Lomax, Doris Jones, Nyola Gray, Sherree Shaline and Sheila Mims along with Louisiana Hospice for making the last few months of her life here on earth so comforting.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to First Baptist Church Picayune or Parkview Baptist Church Monroe.

Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. at McDonald Funeral Home in Picayune on Sunday, July 5. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at New Palestine Cemetery.
