Victor Gilcrist Juett (“Uncle Vic”) was born December 25, 1921 in Russell Springs, Kan. to Charles Robert and Rosa Gertrude Juett. He departed this world on May 13, 2008 at the age of 86 in Sherman, Texas.
Family visitation was held on Friday, May 16, 2008 at Waldo Funeral Home. Services were held at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, May 17, 2008. The Rev. David Petrash, Chaplain for Home Hospice of Grayson County, officiated with burial following in the Memorial Park section of West Hill Cemetery. An honor guard from the Navy Funeral Honors Burial Detail in Ft. Worth conducted military graveside honors.
He was married to Shirley (Riepe) Juett from 1941 to 1955. On Dec. 1, 1956 he married Margaret (Margie) States, the love of his life, and they remained married until her death in 1996. They moved from Reasnor, Iowa to Southmayd, Texas after his retirement in 1979.
He was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1942-1945 and was involved in top-secret Naval intelligence tracking enemy submarines. Due to the top-secret nature of the work he was involved with during the war, he was awarded a ribbon for Meritorious conduct as a member of the United States Naval Communication Intelligence Organization.
After attending Afton High School he was employed by the Penn-Dixie Cement Co. until he enlisted in the service. After leaving the navy, he went to work for the May Tag Corporation from 1945 to 1979. From 1996 to 2005 he was the Manager of Traffic at the Southmayd Corporation.
From 1965 to 1976, Victor was the Mayor of Reasnor. He was the former Governor of the Moose Lodge in Newton, Iowa, a lifetime member of the American Legion, and a member of the VFW and Elks. He and Margie were members of the Key Memorial Methodist Church.
Victor was affectionately known as “Uncle Vic” locally and will be remembered for his wonderful smile, brilliant blue eyes, and ability to make anyone laugh. He often remarked, “I love making people laugh.” Those who remember the Rendezvous Club will remember Uncle Vic for his laughter and wonderful dancing. He loved going to the ranch in Oklahoma and sitting under a huge pecan tree discussing the issues of the day and family with James. His greatest joy was family, and he loved being with his grandchildren. Very special thanks with love to John and Rhonda Roman, Melissa LaLonde, Melody and Jarett Jobes.
Victor was predeceased in death by: his parents; four brothers, Tracy, Kenny, Pat, and Jim; 2 sisters, Marguerite and Martha; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis States; a granddaughter, Connie Jo States.
