A tractor accident Tuesday just after noon killed a Derby man.
Emergency personnel were called to the home of 55-year-old John Sherman, 162 Hillview Dr., Derby, in response to a tractor accident, said Chief Deputy Shane Tucker.
When deputies arrived, they found a tractor had rolled over on Sherman, and there were people using a jack attempting to move the tractor off of him, Tucker said.
Investigation into the accident determined that Sherman was attempting to pull a small tree out of the ground using an older model tractor that did not have a roll cage, Tucker said. As the tractor pulled on the tree, the tractor flipped over on it’s top, crushing Sherman who was still in the operator’s seat.
EMS personnel responded to the scene and pronounced Sherman deceased on scene. Tucker said a tow truck was required to put the tractor upright and remove Sherman.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said next of kin have been notified and Sherman’s cause of death was due to massive trauma he sustained in the accident.
