A single vehicle accident that occurred Dec. 1, on Melton Smith Road resulted in the death of the driver.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the accident was called in at about 5:19 that morning and occurred about a quarter of a mile west of Mississippi Highway 53 on Melton Smith Road.
Emergency personnel responded to find the driver, 21-year-old Megan Ladner of Poplarville had succumbed to injuries she sustained during the accident, Tucker said.
Investigation into the accident showed Ladner was east bound on Melton Smith road when the vehicle left the road as the vehicle entered a curve. Ladner attempted to get back on the road, but overcorrected twice, causing the vehicle, a 1997 Ford Ranger, to roll and eject her from the vehicle, Tucker said. Ladner was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, Tucker said.
“It’s just so important for people to wear their seat belts,” Tucker said.
Tucker said the investigation showed that poor visibility due to fog that morning and rate of travel in the poor conditions may have been contributing factors in the accident.
