An accident that occurred Thursday on Bouie Road just after 8:30 a.m. resulted in the death of the driver.
Emergency responders with the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department and medical personnel were sent to the scene to find the car driven by 34-year-old Jessica Clayton of 12940 Preacher Powell Rd., was involved in an accident.
Investigation into the accident by the Sheriff’s Department shows at that time Clayton was traveling south along the road when, for an unknown reason, she lost control of the vehicle and it left he right side of the road, said Maj. Donnie Saucier.
After leaving the road, the car rolled at least once, ejecting Clayton before coming to rest on top of her. Clayton was transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg for treatment of her injuries, but later succumbed to them, Saucier said.
A 10-year-old male was in the vehicle at the time of the accident, but was unharmed, Saucier said.
While the Sheriff’s Department does not suspect drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the accident, toxicology testing is being performed, which is protocol with all fatal accidents, Saucier said.
