POPLARVILLE — An armed robbery occurred at the Kangaroo Express, 1102 S. Main, about 7:30 a.m., Sunday.
Capt. Rossie Creel with the Poplarville Police Dept. reported that a white female, wearing pajama pants, a dark gray hoodie, and flip-flops entered the store. According to police reports, the woman got an energy drink and approached the counter.
As the clerk began to handle the purchase, the woman allegedly pointed what appeared to be a small revolver at the clerk and demanded money, as can be seen on the surveillance tape image released by police, Creel said.
After snatching the money from the clerk, the woman left through the front door and turned to the right, he said. Approximately $300 was taken.
After the suspect left, Creel said the panic-stricken clerk, who was the only employee in the store at the time, dialed 911 to report the robbery. Police are not releasing the name of the employee.
Another surveillance image shows the woman entering the store. Three lines of words can be seen on the woman’s dark hoodie, Creel said, but what the words say is unclear. He did not know if the image could be sharpened to provide a clearer picture.
Creel said there were no other customers present during the incident. No description of a vehicle that the suspect may have used was available as of Monday morning.
On Monday, the woman was still at large, Creel said. Police are following some leads but at present have nothing concrete.
