A collision Saturday afternoon resulted in the death of a Carriere resident.
The accident occurred Saturday just after 6:45 p.m. on Mississippi Highway 43 North near Cybur Curve, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper First Class Roy Jacobsen.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene at about 6:48 p.m. where two vehicles collided on a curve along the state highway.
The accident resulted in the death of 56-year-old Lawrence Higgins of Carriere, Jacobsen said.
Investigation into the accident determined Higgins was traveling south on the highway when he lost control of his 2009 Toyota Corolla and it went into a broadside slide, entering the north bound lane, Jacobsen said. The driver’s side door of Higgins’ vehicle collided with the front bumper of a north bound 2005 Toyota Tundra driven by 63-year-old Harold Judge of Metarie, La.
Judge and his passenger, 60-year-old Colleen Castleberry also of Metarie, both suffered moderate injuries and were transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Jacobsen said.
Jacobsen said Higgins was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Even though the use of drugs and alcohol is not suspected to be a contributing factor, toxicology results are pending as with all fatal accidents.
Pearl River County Coroner Derek Turnage said Higgins’ cause of death has been attributed to closed head trauma.
