PICAYUNE — The bicycle crushed beneath this SUV was being ridden by an 8-year-old child when it was struck by the SUV on Palestine Road near Neal Road. The accident is still under investigation.
Officers working the scene searched the vehicle involved and found prescription medication in the vehicle. The driver, identified as 52-year-old Francis Burge of Carriere, did not have a prescription for the medication and was also found to have an expired driver's license and no insurance. Burge has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, driving while license expired and no insurance, according to Picayune Police Assistant to the Chief of Police Jeremy Magri.
An update to the story will be printed in Thursday's edition of the Picayune Item.
