The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office will soon have the county’s only “Drug Recognition Expert.”
Deputy David Johnson is a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Officer and was invited to take part in the state’s yearly DRE class to become a certified expert in the field. Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the county has seen an increase in prescription drug DUI arrests. “A DRE can determine if a person is, by legal definition, too impaired to operate a motor vehicle,” Tucker said.
