LAKE VILLAGE, Ark. —
Clifton Mitchell, 26, was arrested in Lake Village, Arkansas Thursday by the Chicot County Sheriff’s Office, said Jeremy Magri, assistant to the chief of police.
Mitchell, wanted for armed robbery, fled the scene of the Sunflower grocery store on Palestine Road last Friday after getting away with an undetermined amount of cash.
“The Chicot County Sheriff’s Office stated that they received a call regarding a white male swimming in a lake and hiding under a dock,” Magri said.
Officers had to coax the man, later identified as Mitchell, out of the water, he said. “They ran a check on him through the National Crime Information Center,” Magri said. “At which time, they received a hit from our agency that he was wanted for armed robbery out of Picayune.
“Mitchell was then taken into custody and transported to the Lake Village Jail, where he is being held on our warrant,” Magri said. “He has appeared before a judge and waived extradition.”
Mitchell is awaiting transport to Picayune, where he will be booked and processed for armed robbery.
