The tank was originally meant to be used as a military fuel tank, but the Carriere Fire Department will use it as an alternative water supply, Banks said. During natural disasters or other situations when the water supply system may not be available, the fire department can pump water from the tank.
He said that if it looks like a hurricane is going to be a direct hit or heading for Pearl River County, the department can fill the tank a few days ahead of time in case they lose the water supply.
The tank is made of rubber type of material and has been fitted with connections to use in filling a fire apparatus. When empty, the tank lies flat and is easily folded and stored until needed.
When the tank was delievered, Avon Proection instructed the department how to use the tank, Banks said.
“I want to thank everyone for supporting the volunteer fire service,” Banks said.
