A local man is charged with intimidating a witness who filed assault charges against him.
Picayune Police officers received many complaints from the victim after lodging an assault charge against 58-year-old Ocean Springs Magee, of 205 S. Blanks Ave., eventually leading to charges of intimidating a witness, Assistant to the Chief of Police Jeremy Magri said.
The victim, a former significant other of Magee’s, filed simple assault charges against the local man in January of this year, and ever since she has been harassed by Magee, Magri said. The harassment includes phone calls that threaten bodily harm and showing up at her house, Magri said. Even after the victim moved in with relatives to avoid contact with Magee, he continued the harassment by showing up at that home, Magri said.
Magee now faces charges of phone harassment and stalking, which are still pending, Magri said.
According to arrest reports filed at the police department, Magee was picked up on March 16, for the charges of trespassing and public drunk for going to the victim’s current place of residence. The following day the department was called back out to the victim’s current home due to his continued harassment, leading to the intimidation of a witness charge, Magri said.
Magee’s bond was set at $100,000.
According to police department records, Magee has been arrested by the department 29 times since 1996 for various offenses. It is unclear how many of those arrests were felony charges and which ones, if any, ended with convictions.
