A young woman who appears to have attempted suicide by jumping off of the Interstate 59 overpass at Exit 1, survived with only broken bones.
Saturday at 6:41 p.m. Picayune Police officers and medical responders received calls about the woman, identified as 21-year-old Angela Davis of Picayune, who was sitting on the edge of the overpass in such a manner to have witnesses suspect she was going to jump onto the Interstate below, said Assistant to the Chief of Police Jeremy Magri.
While in route to the overpass, officers were advised she had jumped, landing on the outer edge of the south bound lane of I-59. Magri said officers arrived to find Davis laying on her side, but she was breathing and responsive.
Medical personnel prepared her for transport to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, where she was treated for two broken feet and a broken back, Magri said.
Family members said she may have been depressed from a recent breakup and job troubles, Magri said.
