On Friday at 6:01 p.m., Picayune Police Department responded to an accident on Interstate 59 near mile marker four, said Assistant to the Chief of Picayune Police Jeremy Magri.
Magri said the accident involved an 18-wheeler going northbound on Interstate 59 when it was hit by a RV trying to merge into the right lane. While merging, the RV struck the side of the 18-wheeler .
Each vehicle was occupied by one person, the driver. The driver of the RV was transported to the hospital, he said.
No citations were issued to either driver.
The accident caused traffic to back up in the northbound and southbound lanes, Magri said.
While the Picayune Police were working on the accident going northbound, a three car pile up occurred on the southbound lanes near mile marker six, he said.
As of print time on Monday, the police department could not comment on how many people were involved in the accident or if there were any injuries.
