Traffic investigation finds crack cocaine

PICAYUNE — Investigation into a vehicle obstructing traffic brought about an arrest for possession of crack cocaine.

Picayune Police Detective Thomas Clark said the incident took place on Thursday where a vehicle was obstructing traffic near a home at 402 N. Monroe Ave. While the officers were dealing with the obstruction-of-traffic violation, for which 20 year-old Megan Bogan, of 2503 Hickman Ave., was later cited, they saw a person acting suspiciously.

Investigation into that activity showed that Danielle Staten, 19, of 402 N. Monroe Ave., allegedly was ditching some marijuana while getting into a car, Clark said. Staten and Danielle Worley, 19, of 402 N. Monroe Ave., were both cited for possession of marijuana, Clark said.

While the officers were dealing with that situation, Sharron Staten, 45, also of 402 N. Monroe Ave., who was seated in a chair next to her driveway, began asking questions about the officer’s actions, Clark said. As the officers spoke with her they noticed what appeared to be crack cocaine under her chair. Investigation in to the substance led to her being arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine.

Clark said that area has high levels of narcotics activity.

“We’ve dealt with them before,” Clark said.
