Voting coming up

Pearl River County — Election time in Mississippi is about a week away and voters should be aware where to vote and how to vote.

Mississippi does not have early voting so unless voters are qualified for absentee or affidavit casting their votes will have to wait until Nov. 4. Absentee votes can be cast if the registered voter is age 65 or older, if the voter is going to be out of the county on election day or if work or schedule conflicts with election day, said Circuit Clerk Vickie Hariel.

A press release from Hariel’s office states that the absentee voting deadline is Saturday, Nov. 1 at noon. Until that time absentee ballots can be cast at the Circuit Clerk’s office in the Poplarville courthouse Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.

Picayune residents can cast their absentee ballots at the Picayune city complex at city hall from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday the office will be open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Saturday the office will open at 8 a.m. and close at noon.

Voters who need to know where their polling place is located can visit http://www.touchandvote.ms.gov/ by entering their home address in the text boxes under the link “Find Polling Place”.
