Georgia-Pacific: Gloster plywood mill closing

Associated Press

Gloster Georgia-Pacific Corp. will shut down its plywood mill in Gloster in early December, putting 280 people out of work in time for the Christmas season.

G-P closed its plant in Tylertown in September, leaving 35 unemployed.

The Gloster mill opened in 2005 shortly after Hurricane Katrina to great fanfare from Gov. Haley Barbour and local leaders.

G-P spokesman Julie Davis says a weak market for building materials prompted the decision. Davis says although the company is not describing the shutdown as permanent, no employees will remain at work at the mill.
