Argument allegedly leads to arson

By Jeremy Pittari

Nicholson An argument between family members allegedly resulted in what fire investigators believe was the arson of some home furnishings.

The incident led to the arrest of Carla Pomelow, 25, of 2953 Jackson Landing Rd.

On Saturday, Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Nicholson Fire Department personnel were called out to Pomelow’s home in response to a fire, said Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier.

When the emergency personnel arrived, they found that two couches inside the living room of the home and a bed in the back bedroom were on fire. Saucier said the Nicholson Volunteer Fire Department did a good job of putting the fire out.

From the street, the home shows no external signs of fire damage.

Saucier said investigation into the incident shows that Pomelow and her family, who all lived together at the Jackson Landing address, had allegedly engaged in a fight earlier that day. When everyone left the house, Pomelow returned and allegedly set the pieces of furniture on fire.

Pomelow was charged with arson of an unoccupied dwelling since no one else was home at the time of the fire, Saucier said.
