Poplarville storm debris pickup

By MELINDA BOWMAN
Special to the Item

POPLARVILLE The board of aldermen just one day after a minor brush with Hurricane Gustav, voted to help citizens clean up the vegetative debris it left behind.

The city is offering free vegetative storm debris pickup through Friday. The board is asking residents needing debris pickup to call in their requests to City Hall.

Aldermen say the free pickup is limited only to vegetative debris left by the storm. Vegetative debris piled on the street prior to Gustav will be picked up along with the new debris. However, residents will be assessed fees for that pickup.

The board wants residents to understand the city does not pick up building materials at any time. If building materials are mixed in with vegetative debris, the debris will not be picked up by city workers until the building materials are removed from the pile by the homeowner.

City Hall is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The telephone number is 601-795-8161.
