More than 650,000 still without power

Associated Press

New Orleans More than 650,000 power customers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas are still without electricity after Hurricane Gustav.

Of those, just over 510,000 are served by Entergy. That company says 453,000 customers have been restored. However, prospects of full restoration are still measured in terms of weeks instead of days for Baton Rouge and the Louisiana coast where Gustav roared in.

Baton Rouge’s other power major provider — Demco — still has about 69,000 customers without power. Cleco also reports about 69,000 outages.

Gustav came ashore Monday as a Category 2 storm.
