Two young men charged with burglary during storm

By Jeremy Pittari

Pearl River County A patrolling deputy, informed of suspected burglary activity by concerned residents, arrested two suspects.

Monday, as Hurricane Gustav’s feeder bands brought storm conditions to Pearl River County, deputies patrolled the county looking to keep peace and order. One of those patrols led a deputy to talk to some juveniles hanging out watching the storm. Those juveniles told the deputy they saw what appeared to be a burglary at a nearby home, said Chief Investigator Shane Tucker.

An investigation into the matter lead to the arrest of Bennie Tesseniar, 19, of 122 Jasmine St., Nicholson and a 16 year-old juvenile. Both suspects were charged with residential burglary, Tucker said.

Tesseniar was found hiding in a shed along with the stolen items. The stolen items consisted of power drills, boom boxes, DVDs, CDs and other assorted items. The juvenile was located a short time later.

At the time of the storm, apparently Tesseniar was out on bond for a previous residential burglary. That bond has been revoked, Tucker said. The juvenile is reported to be in the custody of the Department of Human Services.

Sheriff David Allison said he appreciates the hard work of the deputies who ensured the peace was maintained in the county during the storm.

“We are committed to protecting the citizens of this county and their property,” Allison said.

Not only did officers ensure the safety of homes and property, they also worked to clear trees from state and county roads.

“Everybody pulled together real well,” Tucker said.
