Miss. casinos gaming revenue up $12M in July

Associated Press

Jackson Mississippi casinos took in $249 million in July, about $12 million more than in June, according to figures from the State Tax Commission.

Win, or casino revenue, is the net amount of money won from gamblers. It is not profit.

The gross earnings figure represents revenue with no operating costs or other expenses deducted. And it’s casino revenue only — separate from hotel, restaurant or bar revenues generated by the resorts.

In July, the Mississippi River casinos took in $133.6 million, up about $13 million from June. The coastal market took in $115.6 million, down about $1 million from June.

Gaming revenue is tracked by calendar year. For the year to date, casinos revenues totaled $1.67 billion.

Gaming tax collections are tracked on the state’s fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. Casino tax collections in July totaled $28.6 million.
