Vicksburg lawyer sentencing postponed in Fen-Phen case

Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. The sentencing of a Vicksburg lawyer on federal charges of helping clients submit false settlement claims has been delayed.

Robert Arledge was convicted in a federal investigation of false diet drug settlement claims in the state in a multimillion dollar lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Harold Brittain said that Arledge will now be sentenced Oct. 11. He was to be sentenced Monday.

Brittain could not comment about the delay.

Arledge was the sole attorney charged in the federal IRS-FBI investigation. He faces a maximum 35 years in prison, but under federal sentencing guidelines, he likely won’t receive the maximum sentence.

Arledge is free on a $50,000 bond until sentencing.
