Traffic stop nabs suspect

By Jeremy Pittari
Item Staff Writer

PICAYUNE A loud noise violation traffic stop lead to a Picayune Police Officer to discover a suspected drug dealer.

As the officer passed a white Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Desmond Lasley Littles, turning onto Sally Drive from Betsy Drive Thursday at about 11 p.m. he heard a car radio played at an excessively loud volume, said Police Chief Jim Luke.

A traffic stop was performed on the car and as the officer approached the driver’s side of the vehicle he could smell the odor of burnt marijuana. The officer asked Littles for his driver’s license and proof of insurance. Littles provided the officer with the driver’s license but was unable to provide proof of insurance, Luke said.

A green leafy substance was observed in the ash tray of the vehicle, which the officer believed to be marijuana based on his training, Luke said. After a search of the vehicle the officer found a cargo type bag containing 29 individual bags of what is believed to be marijuana, two digital scales, boxes of sandwich bags and more than $1,000 in cash.

Littles, 21, of 1319 Sally Dr., was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, noise violation and no insurance, Luke said.
