Pascagoula reopens door for cottages

Associated Press

PASCAGOULA The Pascagoula City Council has unanimously changed its position about allowing an area to become a Mississippi Cottage retail village.

The council rejected the cottages at the July 1 council meeting on a 5-2 vote, but City Manager Kay Kell resubmitted the information to the council at Tuesday’s meeting for a second look.

Up to 16 cottages will be donated by the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency to the city and placed at the old Heinz Pet Products property. Kell says the cottages will be lived in for two years by people still in need of assistance.

After the two-year deadline, Kell says the city-owned property and cottages will become a retail area.
