Jail fire caused by overheated fan

AP

HATTIESBURG, Miss. Hattiesburg firefighters responded to a small fire that erupted from a box fan inside the Forrest County jail.

Three fire trucks responded to the jail around 1 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a fire in the jail’s kitchen.

Capt. Mike Davidson said the fire started after the fan overheated. Davidson said the fire wasn’t started by inmates and added that the jail did not have to be evacuated.
