Growing pot, distributing Meth, busted

PICAYUNE — Three suspects were arrested recently by the Pearl River county Sheriff’s Department for illegal drug activity.

One of the suspects was charged with manufacture of marijuana, while the other two suspects were charged with distribution of methamphetamine.

The suspect charged with manufacturing marijuana was Kevin Glen Seals, 21, of 670 George Ford Rd., Carriere. Chief Investigator Donnie Saucier said the department went out to Seals’ address on May 18, after receiving information that he allegedly was growing the plant in his back yard.

Seals gave the investigators consent to search and the investigators found two marijuana plants growing in the backyard. Two more plants were also found inside the home, Saucier said. A container with numerous seeds also were found in the home.

Seals was charged with manufacture of marijuana.

The second case brought Robert Warren Coffey, 46, of 407 Woody Circle, Ocean Springs and Scott Chromey, 33, of 8400 Richwood Dr., Vancleave into custody on Wednesday. Saucier said the department received information that the two suspects allegedly were distributing methamphetamine in Pearl River County. An undercover agent contacted the suspects to arrange a purchase of the drug. In agent also established the type of vehicle in which the suspects would be arriving.

Saucier said once the arrangements were made, the undercover officer set up at the meeting point, which was a store in the Barth community. Once the suspects arrived, the undercover officer gave Coffey $50 in exchange for what is believed to be methamphetamine. Investigators and officers set up around the meeting point prior to the exchange. Once the exchange was complete, they moved in and arrested both suspects.

Both Coffey and Chromey were charged with sale of a controlled substance. Saucier said the money used in the transaction was recovered.
