Autopsy shows couple was strangled

Associated Press

BASSFIELD, Miss. Officials say an autopsy shows a Jefferson Davis County man and his wife were strangled.

County coroner Greg Blackwell says investigators believe 74-year-old Edward Eugene Redd and his wife, 70-year-old Cherilene Fuller Redd, were killed the day before their bodies were found Saturday in their Bassfield home.

A neighbor found the Redds lying on their floor near the kitchen.

Sheriff Henry McCullum said he has a few leads but hasn’t made any arrests.

The couple’s 1997 Chevrolet Lumina was missing from the home. Jackson County officials found the car burning Sunday in the Hurley community.

Services for the couple were scheduled Wednesday at New Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Collins.
