Homicide on White Chapel

By Jeremy Pittari
Item Staff Writer

CARRIERE A homicide took place off of White Chapel Road Wednesday afternoon.

Initial investigation into the incident shows that Vance Ashe, 35, of 5 Ford Ashe Circle, Carriere, shot and killed Richard Bryan Tice, 41, also of Ford Ashe Circle, but a separate address. Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said Ford Ashe Circle is located at 80 White Chapel Road.

Deputies received a call from Ashe at 4:39 that afternoon, stating he had shot someone in his front yard and he already placed the weapon on his table in his house. Tucker said the weapon was a handgun.

Ashe was taken into custody and emergency personnel tended to Tice, who was air lifted by LifeFlight to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg. Tice was pronounced dead at the hospital, Tucker said.

According to Ashe, there had been an ongoing dispute between the two men. Apparently an altercation between the two men occurred that afternoon as Ashe pulled up to his house after coming home from work. Ashe saw Tice approaching his vehicle and Ashe grabbed his gun. Ashe got out of his truck and pulled the gun on Tice, who kept coming at Ashe in spite of the gun in Ashe’s hand, Tucker said.

Tucker said evidence shows Ashe fired two shots at Tice, striking Tice once in the chest. Tice is reported not to have had a weapon on him, Tucker said.
