PICAYUNE — GodSpeed 3 held the finals of their Open Mike Night at Rooster’s off of U.S. Highway 11.
The group had four judges select a winner from performers who had battled their way through previous Open Mic Nights.
Judges for the event were: Mark Formby — Member of the Miss. House of Representatives and local broker/REALTOR; Archie Rawls — PRCC band director and music teacher; Jodi Marze — Picayune Item Lifestyles Editor; and Jennifer Whitfield— Concert pianist and music teacher. All judges play instruments and have been involved in either judging, reviews or teaching.
Performers for the event were: Cathy Hunt, Jenny Menko, Jennifer Farmer, Caitlyn Shows, Anna Jenkins and Kameron Jackson.
All contestants were talented and well received by judges, but there could only be one winner.
First place and a trip to Tennessee went to Jennifer Farmer. Farmer’s selections were country and religious. Her stage presence was commanding and she had a great interaction with the crowd.
GodSpeed 3 member Michael Clogher said, “This was our first attempt at Open Mic Night and we were all impressed with the talent that came out to perform. We plan on having another one here in the fall. It will be cooler then and we believe even more people will come to try out for it.”
Band member Travis Kennedy said, “We got so close to everyone during the tryouts that we were grateful to have judges take the responsibility off of us. We like the idea of helping local talent get noticed. We have a lot of it in this little area we call home.”
