The Picayune Item
April was membership month for the Friends of the Poplarville Public Library. While the Friends group is always seeking new members, April is the month that the staff members at the library are allowed to actively promote membership in the Friends by asking patrons if they would like to join. Unfortunately, during the entire month of April only one new member joined the group.
The library needs the support of the Friends now more than ever. In the past two years the budget has been dramatically cut. One obvious result of the decreased budget is that the library is open only four days per week now.
The Friends group provides financial support to the library for many items that the budget simply does not cover—funding the Summer Reading Program for children and purchasing DVDs as well as reference and large print books. In the past the group paid for the tinting of the windows on the west side of the building to help with the air conditioning costs, and this year the Friends will pay to have the carpet cleaned. These are just a few examples of how the group assists the library.
An individual membership is only $5 per year! Please consider joining the Friends of the Poplarville Public Library. If you’re already a member, please remember to pay your annual dues, and consider joining at a higher level if you can. Many thanks to all of those who already support the library.
