Save a horse by dancing n’ dining Friday

PICAYUNE A dinner dance to benefit the Mississippi Equine Rescue & Adoption organization will be held on Friday, November 6 at the Crystal Palace, 3036 MS Hwy 43 North at 7 p.m.

Whoopie & the Skeeter Bait Band will be performing for dancing and dining entertainment and an auction will be held later in the evening. The price of admission is $5 for the entire family and tickets are available for advance purchase at Cales Feed & Farm Supply, Picayune or at the door.

A homemade spaghetti dinner with salad, garlic bread, and a drink will also be available for $7 for adults, $5 for children between five and 12, and children under five eat free.

An auction hosted by auctioneer Annie Carter will also be held during the event and features a number of items. One is a signed and numbered limited edition print, #186 out of 300, by Buck Taylor depicting a cowboy on his horse. Taylor, an acclaimed artist of western scenes, is also a movie actor best known for his long running role on TV’s Gunsmoke series.

Among many other items for bid is a two night stay for two people at a Royal Street, French Quarter apartment; a matted and framed sketch of Sam Elliot on a Harley Davidson for the movie “Hell on Wheels,” also signed by the artist; a $50 gift certificate for Galiano’s; a gift certificate from Chef John Besh; passes to Hollywood Casino Golf; a gift certificate from Paul Pastry’s; and an annual pass to Up the Creek Acres.

A saddle will also be given away that night, the winner chosen from all the participants in MERA’s Summer Feed Shows in Poplarville.
