Hall competes in Miss Mississippi

Special to the Item

PICAYUNE Miss Gulf Coast, Julie Hall of Picayune, will be competing against 47 other contestants for the title of Miss Mississippi throughout the week of July 12-18 at the Vicksburg Convention Center in Vicksburg.

Hall, a 2007 graduate of Picayune Memorial High School, is currently attending Mississippi College and plans to graduate in 2011 with a degree in Business Administration. Her career ambitions are to become either a successful prosecutor, corporate communications consultant or fashion retail marketing consultant.

Some of Hall’s accomplishments include: The President’s List, being named a Mississippi College Hederman Business Scholar, being named a Presidential Scholar with Distinction, becoming a Coca-Cola Scholarship National Semifinalist, being inducted into the Picayune Memorial High School Hall of Fame and she was selected to intern at an investment firm.

As a contestant, Hall’s platform is the March of Dimes: Making a difference.

“I am dedicated to partnering with the March of Dimes, an organization that has a mission to improve the health of babies by working to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. I will be an advocate for these babies and work to aid their families by raising money for genetic research, making educational tools available and helping to provide good healthcare, both pre- and post-natal,” said Hall of her year in service, should she be crowned the reigning Miss Mississippi.

Hall said she has already raised hundreds of dollars for March of Dimes and has participated in the March of Dimes March for Babies. She has written numerous letters to legislators, educating them to the need for more federal funding for prematurity research.

The winner of Miss Mississippi will be crowned on July 18 and will go on to compete for Miss America.
