Item photo by Kathy Smyth HABITAT WELCOMES FAMILIES HOME — The homes of the Ducre and Smith families, built by Pearl River County Habitat for Humanity, were dedicated last Tuesday. It was an evening of well wishes for these families as they begin their lives in their new homes. Over 70 volunteers as well as members of the community came out to celebrate with them. Donna Fischer, Executive Director for Habitat, began the festivities by trying to individually thank everyone who had helped with the project, but after realizing that the list was much longer than anyone could imagine, she just said a big thank you to all. The ceremony ended with a presentation by Gene Yeager, Habitat’s Board President, to Bob Niemi, Habitat’s former President, for his vision of what this project could become. Habitat reminded all throughout the evening that the work is far from over, and while these two houses are finished, there is much more work to be done to complete the remaining homes before the end of the year. To volunteer, or for more information on ways to help Habitat, call 601-799-4636. Welcome home to the Ducre and Smith families! PIctured above is the Ducre family on the porch of their new home.
