Mr. Carol Lee Bridgers, 82, of Poplarville, Miss., died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at White Funeral Home, 315 Highway 11 South, Poplarville on Friday, April 15, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Carl Myers, Rev. Jeff Easterling, and Bro. Ron Henderson will officiate at the service.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Bridgers was born September 28, 1933 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina to Errol Rainey Bridgers and Viola Malley Bridgers. He was a member and Deacon at First Baptist Church in Poplarville. He was a 1952 graduate of Poplarville High School; attended Pearl River Community College; and held Bachelor and Master’s Degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. He was an US Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Iowa from 1952 until 1956. During his career, he was an art instructor at Poplarville High School from 1960 until 1965; a graphic illustrator with General Electric at the NASA Mississippi Test Facility for twelve years; he resumed teaching industrial arts at Pearl River Central School District for two years; and returned to the Poplarville School District teaching cooperative education until his retirement in 1994.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jean Smith and Kathleen Lowe.
Family members include his wife of 58 years, Margaret Amacker Bridgers; four children, Mark Bridgers, Craig Bridgers, Leigh Ann (Mike) Riley, Jason Bridgers; seven grandchildren, Marcus Bridgers, Jaycee Bridgers, Madisyn Bridgers, Dustin Bridgers, First Lieutenant Dalton Lee Bridgers, Kaitlyn Barber, Peyton Barber; one great grandson, Lucian Bridgers; a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Michael Elliot, Mitch Magee, Bill Windham, Mike Riley, Glenn Barber, and Harry Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Armstrong and Junior Howard.
